About LI-DOG
The Long Island Dog Owners Group (LI-DOG) is a non-profit organization working to create dog parks and increase access to public parkland and beaches for Long Island dog owners and their dogs.
Since 1998, LI-DOG has built a successful track record of getting new dog parks created. By working with local elected officials, LI-DOG has helped create at least six new off-leash areas including dog parks in Huntington, West Hills, Blydenburgh, Robinson Duck Farm, and Cherry Ave. in W. Sayville, plus an off-leash beach at Mud Creek Park in E. Patchogue. In addition, the organization and its representatives have worked with local officials to get new dog parks opened in Eisenhower Park in Nassau County, in the Town of Oyster Bay and in the Village of Valley Stream.
As close to 50% of Nassau & Suffolk residents have at least one dog, Village, Town and County governments have responded to the changing needs and wishes of this large and growing constituent group. LI-DOG is happy to say we are seeing more opportunities for dog owners to enjoy activities with their dogs. But, there is still much to do. There are many parks on Long Island where dog owners cannot even walk their dogs on-leash and there is an increasing need for off-leash areas in Long Island parks and beaches.
With our group of supporters constantly growing, we will continue our efforts to meet the needs of Long Island dog owners and enhance our quality of life on Long Island. Please join us in our cause!
