On Feb. 13th, LIPA officials met with Huntington Town Supervisor
Frank Petrone and H-DOG representatives to finalize the establishment of Dog Runs
at the Town Shelter, Deposit Rd., East Northport.
Bruce Davidson, LIPA Government Relations said that LIPA is pleased
to provide the land from their "Right of Way" properties for two separate dog runs
at the Huntington Animal Shelter. A lease arrangement between LIPA and the Town
will be established. One run will be adjacent to the shelter to provide an
obedience and behavior training facility to increase adoptability for shelter
dogs. The other will be a separate large run for the general population of dog
owners in Huntington.
Supervisor Petrone said that he and H-DOG "have been working
together for some time to make this possible and is excited about the benefits to
the community and its dog owners."

H-DOG spokespersons Barbara Buscareno and Dan
Gerrish agreed that "it is long overdue, will save the lives of many shelter dogs
and provide a much needed place for people to exercise and socialize their dogs."
Petrone said "this is a win, win for all
concerned" and hopes for the Dog Runs to eventually become a "state of the
art facility." H-DOG will be working with the Town to develop an operational plan
including design dimensions, Town responsibilities, with rules and regulations for
users. The estimated completion and opening date is June 2003.
