The Long Island Dog Owners Group has launched a major petition drive throughout Suffolk County to gather signatures from people who believe dog parks are essential to the health and well being of our dogs. Our goal is 10,000 signatures in 2005!
The petition asks the Suffolk County Legislature and the County Executive to create public off-leash areas for dog owners and their dogs within the 50,000 acres of Suffolk County parkland. At this time, there is ONE, small, legal off-leash dog run for the 650,000 households who own at least one dog in all of Suffolk County!
This year is our best opportunity yet to create new dog parks and off-leash areas. Every Suffolk County Legislator is up for re-election in November. If we can present these legislators with thousands of signatures from residents asking for off-leash access to these thousands of acres of parkland, we will convince them it is in their interest, as well as ours, to create new dog parks throughout Suffolk County!
Please help by completing as many petitions as possible by getting signatures from your friends, neighbors, relatives and coworkers. Please mail the petitions back to us at: LI-DOG, P.O. Box 587, Huntington, N.Y. 11743. Or, if you have questions, feel free to e-mail us at: lidog_news@yahoo.com.
A massive response is critical!
We are making the petitions available as downloadable Word documents. Please feel free to print as many as you like.
There are two petitions. One is for all Suffolk County Residents. The other petition is for town of Huntington Residents. Huntington residents should sign both petitions.
