West Hills Dog Park Petition Available Now
The Long Island Dog Owners Group has launched a major petition drive throughout Suffolk County to gather signatures from people who believe dog parks are essential to the health and well being of our dogs. Our goal is 6,000 signatures in 2006!
The petition asks the Suffolk County Legislature and the County Executive to create public off-leash areas for dog owners and their dogs within the 50,000 acres of Suffolk County parkland. At this time, there is ONE, small, legal off-leash dog run for the 650,000 households who own at least one dog in all of Suffolk County!
As part of our drive for signatures, we also have launched petition drives specifically for West Hills County Park-where currently the only legal dog run is located-as well as for the Town of Huntington. The petition for West Hills asks for the creation of a larger dog park within West Hills County Park to meet the growing off-leash recreation needs of dog owners and their dogs.
The petition for the Town of Huntington asks for increased access to town parkland..
Please help by completing as many petitions as possible by getting signatures from fellow dog owners, your friends, neighbors, relatives and coworkers. Please mail the petitions back to us at: LI-DOG, P.O. Box 587, Huntington, N.Y. 11743.
If you're interested in the West Hills dog park specifically, you can e-mail us at lidog_news@yahoo.com for a list of potential locations to gather signatures. Also, feel free to e-mail us if you have any questions..
