Small Dog Park In West Hills County Park Now Open

A dog park for dogs 25 pounds or less is now open within West Hills County Park. The dog park, which is one-third of an acre and covered in new grass, is located within the park off High Hold Drive. To get to the small dog park enter the park from Round Swamp Rd. and follow High Hold Drive approximately one-quarter of a mile until you come to the parking lot on your left. Follow the signs to the dog park located across the street from the parking lot.

The dog park is designed to make sure that small dogs have their own place to run and romp. It's possible for small dogs to be injured by larger running dogs. Dogs over 25 pounds have their own larger dog park within West Hills on Sweet Hollow Rd.

The small dog park has new benches and is slated to get a new dog water fountain. It is located on the site of the original West Hills dog park, which opened in July 1998. When a new, larger dog park was created on Sweet Hollow Rd. in late 2006, LI-DOG asked the Suffolk Parks Dept. to make the High Hold Drive location the new park for small dogs. The Parks Dept. agreed and after regrading and reseeding the ground, the new park for small dogs opened at the end of June.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Thank Suffolk Parks Commissioner John Pavacic and the Parks Dept. for opening this great new dog park for small dogs by emailing them at: Let LI-DOG know what you think, too, at
