No
sooner did the Council on Environmental Quality approve a dog run at Coindre Hall
last month then Leg. Ginny Fields (D-Oakdale) called for the decision to be
reconsidered on the grounds she had “new information”. Leg. Fields is
apparently claiming that trees will be cut down for the run (which is totally wrong)
and that a fence around the run was not specified (which is inaccurate.)
Leg. Fields latest attempts to
thwart our efforts to create dog parks at Coindre Hall and elsewhere in
Suffolk County
were the subject of intense discussion at H-DOG’s monthly meeting on April 3rd
at the Huntington Town Library in Huntington Village. (For other news from the
meeting, click here.)
In response to Leg. Fields
continuing efforts to sabotage the will of dog owners in Huntington and to thwart
the interests of dog owners throughout Suffolk County, H-DOG decided at its meeting
to take the fight for dog parks directly into Leg. Fields’ Ninth Legislative
district. (For a description of the Ninth district, which covers Oakdale, Great
River and Central Islip, among other towns,
H-DOG cannot do this alone.
Here is what is needed:
-
Friends, family,
and anyone else you know in the Ninth District to be made aware of Leg. Fields’
anti-dog owner agenda.
-
Letters to Leg. Fields asking why
she continues to work against the interests of dog owners.
-
Letters to
Newsday, News 12, the
Islip Bulletin, Islip
News, and other local news outlets making
Suffolk dog owners aware of Leg.
Fields’ anti-dog owner agenda.
-
Supporters willing
to go into the Ninth district to hand out flyers and petitions at pet shops, vets,
dog trainers, and other pet-friendly locations.
We can
succeed! A few years ago Islip tried to pass a two-dog limit per household. Dog
owners rose up in protest. We need these dog owners to stand up again in protest
against Leg. Fields’ anti-dog owner agenda.
Other activities are being
planned as well. As soon as we nail down the details, we’ll let everyone know. The
key is to get our message out!
